This is an ideal solution for broadband access providers who don’t like to retrofitting new wire inside high building. It leverages existing coaxial infrastructure which is already deployed in most of buildings, apartment for CATV. In this case, it is also commonly being referred as EOC (Ethernet over Coax). Broadband access providers can easily reach individual household and start their service offer (and get payment) without door-to-door service or even involve drilling hole and running cable. Namely, it created new revenue opportunity for cable MSO and other service providers.
In order to support higher numbers (more than 31) of household or for more effective throughput for subscribers, service providers can install more than one MDU Master bridges to multiple the available bandwidth.
By adding NMS adaptor (connecting MDU Master Bridge by Ethernet interface), service providers can easily realize remote management and system monitoring. For example, rate limiting, dynamic configuration change, connected host number. Network management can be performed on http web browser or standard SNMP viewer.
Network connection speed is up to 128Mbps. With the high bandwidth, multimedia on demand (MOD) could be provided over the existing coaxial cable.
